Appeal for witnesses to attack at Skate Park
Police investigating an assault in Washington have appealed for a number of key witnesses to come forward and help officers with their inquiries.
An investigation is ongoing into an incident that occurred at Washington Skate Park at about 6.30pm on October 12.
A male victim, who is 23 years of age, was assaulted by a group who initially threw objects at him, before they proceeded to attack him.
The victim suffered non-life threatening head injuries which required hospital treatment.
Inquiries into the attack are ongoing in order to identify those involved, and police believe various people were in the area at the time who may have witnessed the assault.
A number of Good Samaritan members of the public also came to the victim’s assistance after the attack took place
As a result, officers are further appealing for those individuals to come forward.
Inspector Nick Gjorven, of Northumbria Police, said: “We will not tolerate violent incidents such as this and I am appealing to anyone who saw this assault to come forward.
“The victim has understandably been left shaken by the incident and we are committed to identifying those involved and ensuring they have their day in court.
“We are carrying out a number of lines of inquiry, and I would seriously encourage those who were responsible to hand themselves in to police – before we turn up at your door.
“Your information, no matter how insignificant you feel it may be, could be the key piece of evidence that ensures perpetrators are rightly brought to justice.”
