STORY:

The issue of whether the TV licence is worth it or even relevant in this day and age (prompted by a call for the BBC to switch to a subscription model) has sparked debate on social media; here are more of your comments.

Veterans Response

CIC: Outdated out of touch if you want this service then it should be by choice so subscribe to it so you have the option. Many veterans find its a political organisation, too many repeats. You now have Brit box which is a subscription service. I personally have not listened to BBC radio 1 or 2 in 20 years yet forced to pay for the service that I or my family do not watch or want. Give us the option to say no.

Graham Scaife: The TV licence is actually good value. Look at the subscription Sky charges and they have more adverts than ITV! Other than the multitude of BBC digital TV channels you have all the BBC radio stations. No adverts!

Have you listened to independent radio? It's ghastly. The same adverts time and time again. The BBC is far from perfect but please God no, don't have it carrying adverts to receive its funding.

Stuart Wells: The BBC is very outdated & the BBC needs to move with the times. There is nothing that interests me enough to buy a T.V.L.

If the BBC wants people to come back it needs a major overhaul of its programmes. Christmas is just around the corner & I can suspect what the BBC will be showing Only Fools & Horses Morecambe & Wise & Christmas movie Premier Back to the Future Pt 1 . I get all my entertainment from online services.

Chris Mason: You can view the BBC for free anywhere around the world but it’s not free in the UK. It needs to catch up with the rest of the world.

Waldo Jeffers: Worth every penny.

Brian Foster: The BBC should move with the times and put adverts on and scrap the licence fee.

Irene Nelson: So many repeats they need to get updated with programmes that are new.

Derek Turner: The BBC should be self funding instead of leeching off the taxpayer.

Chris J. Allan: If you don’t think the licence fee is good value you don’t know what it actually does.

Christopher Challis: Its an unbelievable service really.
