Plans approved for huge housing development in shadow of Penshaw Monument, despite objections. What do you think of the plans?

Diane Binks: Absolutely shocking the way these plans have gone through with no thought of how it will effect the local area and our environment.

David Parkin: Why do we need all of these houses and hotels? Are we expecting a huge influx of people dying to come to Sunderland? Or are we going to accept a huge increase of Asylum/ immigrants that we are not being informed about? Once this estate is built will it affect the likes of Kubix going ahead in the future? This council has to the most backward thinking group ever. We need more entertainment venues being built, kids leisure centre, we have nothing for them during holiday times.

Chris Parry: Disgusting. Schools, GPs and traffic are going to be major problems.

Jeanette Martin:

Nowhere is safe. This was green belt, changed to brown now been built on! If you have enough money anything is possible.

Carole Butler: You are going to take the look of Penshaw away it’s been there a long time why put houses there?

Michelle Armstrong: Where have all the animals gone. What a disgrace.

Dawn Laverick: We are going to have no green spaces left

Tom Booth: Everything is in view of the monument, there was a pit then a big heap directly opposite for years. Where the site is planned sounds okay.

Chris Parry: Our local services can’t cope with 400 more families. The traffic is a nightmare on the main road, our schools are full and you can’t get get a GP appointment for weeks. These are the main concerns for us locals.

Niki Short: Ah this is a shame. It's a lovely green area.

Mary Pinder: Disgraceful spoils greenland, don’t need anymore houses.

Michael Kierl: Hideous. Build on brown field sites please.
