High scoring as handful of Sunday league games escape the showers

-

Heavy rain put paid to many council grounds, which saw a lot of matches postponed last weekend.

As a result, only eight games went ahead in the SSK Recruitment Peterlee and District Sunday League.

In the Premier Division, it was derby day when Easington Colliery Welfare took on Easington Welfare.

It was the unbeaten Colliery Welfare who came out on top, winning emphatically 8-1 with a hat-trick from Liam Cooke, two goals apiece from Jack McAndrew and Ryan Barrow, and one from Dennis Tapping completing the scoring. Adam Barnaby notched a consolation goal for the Welfare.

A brilliant hat-trick from Brandon Cook and a strike from Karl Anderson paved the way for South Hetton Cricket Club to defeat Easington

Lane WMC 4-1, while Horden JD’s Bar are still searching their first win of the campaign after their recent heavy defeat.

They went down 11-0 to Seaham Marlborough, with Tony Little bagging four goals and Marc Taylor a hat-trick.

In the other match played in the division, Murton Colliery Welfare and Shotton Comrades played out a 2-2 draw, with Luke Thompson and Liam Ritchie netting for the Colliery outfit. Nathan Grainger and Michael Boardman were on target for the Comrades.

Two matches went ahead in the First Division and Eppleton FC lost their 100 per cent record, going down to the only goal in their game against Easington Mechanics. The latter came out on top with Joshua Lincoln their scorer on the day.

A five-goal encounter saw Easington CIU get the better of Wingate Howden when they won 3-2, thanks to goals from Tom Williams, Stephen Fletcher and Brian Smith.

Jordan Stephenson and Ellis Dunn found the net for the Howden outfit.

In the Second Division, goals from Jack Rutherford and Max Swainston saw Seaham Park FC come out on top to take all three points in a 2-1 win against Seaham Inn Between, whose reply came from substitute Aaron MacDonald.

East Durham, meanwhile, had no trouble in ensuring the points when they hammered Horden Labour Club 7-0.

The goals came via a Michael Bayles hat-trick and a brace from Karl Arkwright, plus efforts from Liam Walker and Christopher Black.
