How do you feel about driving on an alllane running smart motorway?

Gary Milburn: Just leave them as they are, smart motorways is like gambling with peoples lives.

David Cowley: Harder for emergency services to get through without a hard shoulder.

Steve Dixon: People have already been killed on smart motorways they are a proven deathtrap.

David Gardner: What value do you put on a life?

John Gillon: Always good to have an escape route. With all lanes that is removed. But variable speed limits do help with congestion.

Pamela Richardson: No. Its dangerous. People have been killed.

Keith Fraser: Terrible idea! It’ll cause more rear end crashes and deaths than anything else.

Michael Forster: Nowt smart about them, they

are death traps.

John Harvey: Very dangerous, seen multiple near misses when a car is stopped on hard shoulder due to breakdowns and it’s being used as a live lane.

Helen Green: It totally sounds like a death trap, I wouldn't dream of driving on one, absolute lunacy!

Gary Duncan: Why is there even a debate around this? Surely it’s obvious that removing the hard shoulder massively increases the risk of death and injury.

Sellers Davison: I've been on one and they aren't safe whatsoever.

Maureen Mulvaney: Nothing smart about them.

Michael Atkinson: Surely it’s the same as driving on any carriageway. Not many dual carriageways have a hard shoulder and there’s not loads of crashes. It’s the people on the roads that need educating about safe stopping distances.

Jan Bird: Too dangerous.
