Ryhope CW joint-manager Gary Pearson admitted things could have been very different in his side’s impressive 5-0 win at Newcastle Benfield.
Afterweatheringsomeearly pressure, two goals from top goalscorer James Ellis put Ryhope in control at the interval.
Ellis’ third goal of the day was sandwiched by goals from Ben Riding and Karl Southern as their side strolled to a fine win on Tyneside.
The result moved Ryhope intothirdplaceinthetableand they lie just three points shy of second-placedWestAuckland Town – but Pearson had some reservations about his side’s slow start to the game.
He said: “It’s the best result in terms of scoring five and keeping a clean sheet – but we didn’tstartwellandcouldhave been two or three down before we had scored. I never get a result at Benfield so that was a nice thing to rack up.
“We showed both sides of our game, the resilient side and then dominating in the second-half.”
