STORY

Theatre-goers were left ‘furious’ and ‘disappointed’ after producers announced a last minute cancellation of Riverdance just hours before the performance was due to begin.

Vivienne Young: Such a shame for everyone who was booked in, the show was brilliant.

Sharon Field: Sure they would have not cancelled for no reason maybe

Covid that’s the way things are stay safe. On the other hand can’t wait for Friday 9-5 waited nearly year for this.

Louise Marrin: Some of the responses to their post were awful. Seemed to not care what the emergency was, or how serious it may be, just the inconvenience, to themselves. Quite a sad reflection of the times.

Alan Hall: Perhaps if they gave more information about the last minute cancellation folk might be more understanding of the situation. Sounds to me like they just couldn't be bothered so pulled it.

Rosie Vieugels:

Considering the rehearsals, money, emotional, physical energy and time that go into productions, no company would ever cancel unless there was a very good reason.

Angela May: After everything the arts have been through, nobody in their right mind would cancel a show without very good reason. Dancers have sat around through the pandemic desperate to get back on stage and you think they couldn’t be bothered to dance?! Really?!!! Yes it was bad that there wasn’t enough notice for people who had travelled far to see the show, but who’s to say that it wasn’t a serious accident or sudden illness which was to blame?

Karen Pye: We went on Friday night but i must admit even though everyone was given allocated times for arrival it was like being squashed in a tin of sardines not very well organised. The flamenco performance was pulled so wonder if one of the performers have contracted covid?

Dionne Lewins: Shame, but it must be serious to do it last minute.

Julie Williamson: You would at least think they'd give the reason cancelling it like that.

Ian McCluskey: You can do whatever you want under the “safety” banner now.
