PLAYTIME RETREAT FOR SOPHIA-ROSE

-

Inclusive activities at the Beacon of Light proved to be a big hit with Sophia-Rose as she got the chance to play outside for the first time since lockdown. The youngster came along to the venue after the Foundation of Light opened up the outdoor space and offered it to those families with children that have special educational needs and disabilities as a safe space to play. Restrictions during lockdown and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic have made it difficult for children to enjoy playtime and the home of SAFC’s official charity provides a perfect venue. Sophia-Rose had the opportunity to get some exercise and fresh air, enjoying full use of the games’ equipment while her mam, Bex could sit and watch. “It’s a brilliant idea, especially in the circumstances. It was so nice to see Sophia-Rose enjoying herself and nice to escape the house,” her mam Bex explained.“Thank you for making it possible. We’ll definitely be back.” The Foundation can offer these sessions thanks to funding from the partnership with Children in Need. The outdoor pitches are covid-secure and monitored and regularly cleaned by coaches to ensure the safety of all parents and children taking part. Kevin Darke, Foundation of Light Inclusion Coordinator, said: “It was great to see so many families making the most of the space and enjoying the Beacon again. “This was the first time we trialled this type activity and we had a great response; it was a fantastic experience and something which we are hoping to run again.”
