Sunderland’s Bridges shopping centre to extend weekend opening hours and open pop up shops ahead of Christmas.

Avril Molloy: I love Christmas shopping but unfortunately Sunderland hasn’t got many shops at all now. Most people would rather travel elsewhere to shop, it’s very sad.

Brendan Young: The bridges and other shopping 'centres' losing a lot of good shops. Less independent shops overall. I include Eldon Square in this too.

Emma Wilson: Should try getting some shops first.

Janice Lamb: No decent shops in Sunderland, no department store and parking charges at a premium.

Denise Sloanes Ball: Newcastle for me, Sunderland is absolutely rubbish!!!

Phil Bainbridge: People of Sunderland moaning Sunderland has no shops after going shopping to Newcastle, Metrocentre and online for the last twenty years. Then blaming the Labour Party for them not being able to spend money in town. Hilarious if it wasn’t sad.

Pauline Slee: Sunderland is a Ghost town, no shops whatsoever, shocking.

Evelyn Rump: Pop up shops? Yeah the ones that sell tatty goods then close down Christmas Eve. Would rather spend my money in Newcastle or Durham. Nothing left in our town.

Dave Smith: The Bridges should be turned into a retail outlet area.

Vicky Addison: Don't bother as there's no shops open even now.

Jackie Summerside: If people used the shops they’d still be open.

Ileen Dover: Wouldn't pay the parking to shop in Dunderland, there's no decent shops anyway.

Philip Pescod: What's the point half of it is empty, forcing people to shop elsewhere.

Janine Wilkinson: We need some decent shops!
