North East civic and business leaders have reacted with anger over failure to reopen North East’s Leamside rail line.

Rhiannon Wood: The red wall MPs are already on about how great the bus and local train service investment is going to be. I'll wait.

Joanne Davison: HS2 is a joke. Have you seen the A1. I dont know how they can justify spending so much when the A1 is like a country road when you get past Newcastle.

David Newton:

Did anyone really believe his promises? For him the North stops at Leeds. We’ve been inundated with Spin already and will get much more.

Sandra Noble: We've been trying for years to get the metro to Washington!! Not one Tory has supported this, it just goes to show what they think of their northern voters.

Brian Hill: I love it when they say 'mothballed' Leamside line. Most of the track has been pinched and level crossings tarmacked over, so they would have to start again.

Paul Emerson: 2021 the year when people who didn't want HS2 are pretending to be unhappy this bit has been cancelled The biggest white elephant since the Seaburn fountain.

William Rutherford:

Did anyone really think this was going to happen regardless of which political party is in power???

Craig McCluskey: The track was still in place in 1997 when Labour last came to power. Why did it not reopen then?

Sandra Wilson: It's always us, false promises.

David Barber: What's the problem? who wants to go to London via Leeds and Birmingham when we've got the east coast line direct???

David Gray: What happened to the north/ south divide???

Paul Wood: He is looking after his own region and not interested in the North East of England!

David Thompson: I didn't vote for him and I've got a car anyway so do what you want with the trains
