DAVID STORY

Decision due on plans to demolish and rebuild historic Sunderland hospital.

Tony Hall: Architecturally nothing special, apart from the portico, as with all hospital buildings they have to be fit for purpose and move with the times, current medical requirements mean that upgrading would be expensive, if possible, same as the old Royal Infirmary, no longer fit for the purpose it was built for.

Stevie Tye: If it’s paid for leave as is because new buildings are owned by another party and rented to the NHS.

Trisha Bernstein: Just build another hospital elsewhere and preserve the heritage. Sunderland are hopeless at saving historical buildings.

Keith Wood: Sir John Priestman. His legacy. Just like the Eye Infirmary. Unless this vandalism is stopped our culture is finished.

Crusty Bread: It’s such a lovely old building.

Alan Hutchinson: Why demolish it. Just upgrade the inside.

Marshall Normington: It's the NHS who want to rebuild it not the council.

Jackie Summerside: Awful place and awful building. The front is dropping down anyway!

James Paterson: Just preserve the front entrance, the rest of it can go, its horrible inside!!!

Mary Hewison: It is the same when they demolished the Royal infirmary it was a lovely building it’s a shame.

Lesley Cheal: Just another one in the long list of historical buildings that Sunderland Council want to knock down!

Bill Duggan: If it is demolished I hope for once the council think before the wrecking ball gets to work. Keep the facade with that great stone work.

Joan Eggleston: Its a lovely building , yes upgrade the inside.

David Todd: Demolishing a good looking building to put another box on the landscape.
