STORY

Tyne Tunnel booths have been demolished after switch to cashless crossing system. How have you been finding it?

Andy Coulson: Why did the scrap the prepay app, it was easy, now have to top up through their website which seems very slow. Also agree that in rush hour it’s slower.

Richard Atkins-Gray:

Used it last weekend, paid for two up front journeys on web site worked a treat, although traffic build up worse than before, hopefully won’t take long to get it sorted.

Paul Green: Used it twice each way. Paid online. No problem whatsoever.

Paul Robe: Would love to no how much they estimate they will make in fines over the next year.

Gemma Bellenie: What about the people who don't like to use cards and only have cash?

Alex Clark: It’s far worse and slower than the old system.

Graham Donkin: Use it every day, spot on up to now.

Mary Pinder: Well I’ve been fined southbound and northbound, I thought it was alright the way it was.

Connor McGarvey: Increase the speed. A19 is not 30mph if you're treating it as a road.

Craig McCombie: I think the north tunnel can only run at 30mph due to it not designed for the volume of traffic. Fully up for south being increased, though. Its wide, smooth and straight.

Anna Collins: Or people who can’t access the internet. Can’t believe they are getting away with it, it’s terrible.

Tom Booth: No gates at all ? The gates were handy for steadying the flow to the two lanes. It'll be like the start of a motor cross race without them.

Evie Fawzi: I do not think this new system is any quicker, no app to do fast top ups and even slower going through the gates. Pointless expensive exercise.

Carly Burnett: Tyne Tunnel is an absolute disgrace.
