Inspiratio­nal Nicola collects another award

The boss of a Sunderland­based firm which helps women cope with the side effects of cancer treatment has been recognised for her inspiratio­nal work.

Nicola Wood has helped provide medical hair loss services to thousands of women through the Wonderful Wig Company – which she set up in 2018, after herself being diagnosed and treated for cancer.

Now she has been won the Inspiring Female for Small Businesses category at the inaugural North East England Chamber of Commerce Inspiring Females Awards

She received the award for her inspiratio­nal and revolution­ary services, in particular supporting people being treated for cancer.

Nicola was diagnosed with cancer and treated for cancer at the age of 36 in 2016.

She set up the company with a specific vision to modernise the wig-wearing experience.

The firm now has two salons – in Sunderland and Newcastle.

Nicola said: “Through my own cancer journey and seeing over 3,000 clients with hair-loss, I truly understand how paramount the right new hair is for someone’s emotional wellbeing.”

“Being recognised by this prestigiou­s and sought after award means the world to me and I hope this spurs us on to help even more women and their families in the North

East and further afield.”

In 2018, Nicola and her firm won the Corporate Social Responsibi­lity category at the Echo’s Portfolio Awards, as well as being shortliste­d in three other sections.

When she set up the firm her aim was to create a unique service with high quality products, and a personalis­ed and discreet service.
