Andy Murray and Posh’n’Becks pies doorstep delivery

-

Pies from The Black Country are now being delivered to people’s doorsteps across the country, with fillings ranging from the full beefy to vegan variety mixes.

The Black Country might be famous for the part that it played in the Industrial Revolution - but it’s also famous for its pies.

In the landmark Mad O’Rourke’s Pie Factory, based in Tipton, in the West Midlands, a family business has been hand-making the finest pies it is famous for, for more than 30 years.

They recently launched on a new venture with their Pies by Post, in a bid to reach more customers.

Their wares are recognisable not just by their taste, but by their cheeky pie names that include the Hen Pecked, packed with chicken and chestnut mushrooms in a classic creamy sauce.

Or there’s the 100 per cent Bullocks to try, with best cuts of beef slowly cooked in its famous gravy.

The Andy Murray is a delicious chicken curry pie; and then there’s the Eeny Meeny Beeny - a vegan offering with a sumptuous mixture of beans, mushrooms and garlic in a tomato and chilli sauce.

There’s also the Posh’n’Becks Steak and Stilton pie, with superb chunks of beef slowly cooked in the brand’s own gravy and Stilton cheese.

The pies are made using traditional methods that include a pie paste to create the shortcrust pastry, rather than the puff pastry often favoured by pie makers.

The idea of shipping out its delicacies by post was largely brought in by the company to allow pie enthusiasts from across the country to sample its wares without difficulty.

The company has joined in celebrating Black Country Month, during the whole month of July.

Mad O’Rourke’s Pie factory was built in 1856 and years later in 1923 was extensively re-built after an explosion. It was re-designed by ‘Le Courbossier’.

The factory produces 17500 pies per day, all prepared to a unique set of recipes, known to very few people.
