Munday’s late strike earns West End win over struggling Durham

-

Sunderland West End were grateful for a late strike from Harry Munday as they grabbed a late win at bottomof-the-table Durham City.

The Citizens looked to be on their way to only their second Northern League Division Two point of the season, as Connor Randell’s equaliser hauled them back into the game after Brad Forster had put West End in front.

However, Steven Stewart

and Keith Graydon’s men took the honours as Munday pounced in the sixth minute of stoppage-time.

Stewart said: “It was one of those games where you expected to win, but Durham played well, worked hard and defended well. The pitch was boggy, but we managed to get the late goal. It was hard to get the ball down and play, it was a tough game for us both but we have come through.”

Late goals from Levi Collins and Dan Wright were not enough for Boldon CA as Andrew Brown, Callum Turnbull, Matthew Connolly and Konner Lamb all scored to give Ryton & Crawcrook Albion a 4-2 win.

Washington were the victors in a nine-goal game against local rivals Birtley Town.

It was the Hoops that looked to be taking the points as they took a narrow lead into second-half injury-time.

Ben Garrity, a Joe Barwick brace and a Ben Gibbon own-goal looked to have been enough for Paul Beat’s men, but Washington were always in the game thanks to a double strike from Michael Fowler and a Jak Hanson strike. Fowler completed his hat-trick in the second minute of injury-time and things got even better for his side as an own-goal from Adam Ward gave them an impressive win.

Two goals from Ryan Bennions and one from Carl Williams helped Redcar Town to a 3-1 home win against Jarrow, while Horden CW came from behind the earn a win at Brandon United. Kai Hewitson put Brandon ahead on 18 minutes, but it was their visitors that took the honours with goals from Mark Ellison and Martin Fowler.

Two Jack Pounder goals were not enough to give Easington Colliery all three points as they were held to a 2-2 home draw by Bedlington Terriers and a Brandon Slater brace helped Blyth Town to a 3-2 win at Newcastle University.

Leaders Heaton Stannington continued to shine as Dean Holmes’s hat-trick gave them a 3-0 win against Esh Winning.
