Cole wants improvements in defence after 3-3 draw
Silksworth CW manager Jamie Cole called on his side to improve defensively after they shared the points in a six-goal thriller against Durham Corinithians.
Chris Thompson, Robert Page and Jordan Dagg all netted for Silky – but they had to settle for a point as their visitors took advantage of some sloppy defending.
Max Stoker, Michael Ross and Kieron Richardson all found the target for the Corinthians as Cole struggled to hide his frustrations over his side’s inability to hold on to a lead in the Wearside League First Division clash.
He told The Echo: “It was a great game for the neutral.
“We got a 3-3 draw in bad conditions with the neversay-die spirit that was carried on from last weekend’s win.
“Both sides had their chances to take the three points. However, we have to cut out the errors and stop giving away sloppy goals.
“I guess the season is a marathon not a sprint.”
The result left Silksworth in fifth place in the table, six points behind league-leaders Chester-le-Street United.
Farringdon Detached fell to a narrow defeat in their home game against Norton and Stockton Ancients.
A single goal by Matty Crossen was enough to give the visitors all three points at Leyburn Grove.
Bottom-of-the-table Coxhoe Athletic were unfortunate not to take a point from their visit to Chester-leStreet United as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Riverside Complex.
And there was a further boost for United as title rivals Darlington Town dropped two points in their home game against Shildon Reserves.
Ellis Husband netted for Town, but the Railwaymen battled back to earn a point thanks to an equaliser from Lucas Pilling.
Gateshead Leam Rangers moved into the last four of the Durham Trophy thanks to a 3-2 win over FC Hartlepool.
The two sides were unable to be separated at halftime as goals from Leam duo
Aidan Rutledge and Adam Byron were cancelled out by equalisers from the home side’s Patrick Mulvey and Sam Cook.
However, a secondhalf penalty from Robbie Houghton was enough to settle the contest as Leam saw off a determined performance from Terry Hill’s Hartlepool side.
