Supermarket Tesco confirms closure of Bridges Shopping Centre store in Sunderland.

Lianne Watt: What about all the people who depend on the place? It’s always busy. Doesn’t make sense to be honest.

Philip Shaw: It's probably because there's a big Tesco store next to the Stadium of Light and they're to close together, just what I think anyway.

Silvia Osso: What a shame. I often pop in there after work for groceries and its always really busy. It doesn’t make sense. I will really miss this store as will lots of other people.

Barry Marshall: It'll be a real miss to the residents of the multi storey blocks above it. Hopefully

Aldi or Lidl may see an opportunity and fill it.

Mary Hewison: One of these large buildings that has been closed down like Joplings could be converted into a decent size supermarket. Not everyone can travel further afield to do their shopping . I can remember the time when we had about three or four supermarkets in town as it was then.

Joan Emmerson:

Hope the staff can get relocated, absolutely outstanding customer service from there. Will be a huge miss.

Carole Baker: Instead of building new retail outlets we should be trying to save the ones we have got, we have got.

Paul Airey: As we encourage more people to live in the Centre as a part of the reinvention of the city, surely a food retailer is essential. How about converting the job Centre on John’s street or developing the ground floor of Joblings which is an utter disgrace.

Lynn Ramsay: Might as well close The Bridges altogether, there will be no shops left soon.

Caroline Hughes: Doesn't make any sense to me, I use it every Saturday. It's always busy.

Angela IrwingStraughan: It is the only supermarket in the centre of Sunderland – shocking! Where do people go?

Kevin Moody: People go where they can get free parking all big name shops have closed.
