More comments on plans for historic Elephant Tea Rooms building.

June Wintrip: It's a beautiful building, always look at it when I walk past. This building is worth preserving unlike the flat roofed buildings of the 60s.

Lisa Hurley: Well I hope they do it correctly, not much history left in Sunderland now.

Brian Roffe: Well done Sunderland Council. More good news for our City. You have to wonder whether the naysayers have actually read the article.

Mandi Green: That would be amazing, for once they want to preserve rather than destroy, hope it goes through.

Lisa Coates: The fact that they are going to try and restore it, take out those awful windows and replace with similar to the original ones can only be a good thing . For once not just tearing down a building.

Joanne Davison: Great news. Looking forward to seeing it finished.

Tom Carroll: No faith in Sunderland council, just look at the mess they've already created, it speaks for itself.

Stuart Porthouse: Excellent proposals, looking forward to the completion.

John McClements: Brilliant building get it renovated and reopened please, as should Sydenham house on Fawcett Street, proper Victorian heritage.

Jim Tansey: Upper levels are breathtaking but the ground floor has been butchered beyond belief.

Jean Gauden: Well nice to hear the Councillors make the decision. What about the publics’ input?

Paul Brewis: I think its a stunning facade and should be fully restored and the cheap shop fronts replaced.

Chris Poulton: W e need to look forward and celebrate that we are now trying to maintain and bring back our history. Elephant tearooms, Mackies Corner, Doxfords gate, Old Fire Station, Minsters, development, buildings on the seafront etc.
