Environmen­t company has sights on net-zero future

A Sunderland-based company is set to play a leading role in helping North East firms towards a net-zero future.

Award-winning social enterprise Climate Action North has joined the North East England Chamber of Commerce in a project to support as many companies as possible on the journey to build a resilient, green economy in the region.

Climate Action North offers a raft of initiative­s, training, and events that actively encourage and engage with businesses to make the changes needed to combat the climate crisis.

A key offer for Chamber members is the firm's ‘Business Action Toolkit’ - which will be launched in the New Year and is designed to help companies identify their climate risks, build resilience, take action, and support their journey to net zero.

Climate Action North’s managing director, Sharon Lashley, said: “We’re excited to be working with the Chamber to help its members become climate resilient.

"The Chamber have been long-standing supporters of climate action plans."

She added: “The Business Action Toolkit covers risks such as severe weather events, skills shortages, and supply chain issues associated with the climate crisis.

"Those who use the toolkit will get a bespoke report highlighti­ng solutions that can form the basis of an action plan to achieve net zero.”

Climate Action North is based at the city’s North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC).

Julie Charlton, relationsh­ip manager at the North East England Chamber of Commerce, said: “It is great to have Climate Action North in our membership as they have such a wealth of knowledge, experience, and advice for our members.

"Sustainabi­lity is becoming ever-more important for all businesses and they need support over how best to reduce their carbon footprint.”

Sharon continued: “The Chamber brings together many amazing businesses in the region and we look forward to helping them on their net-zero journeys.

"All our initiative­s also offer sponsorshi­p opportunit­ies for businesses to fulfil corporate social responsibi­lity commitment­s by taking practical action.”
