Government faces £5bn fuel duty black hole as EV sales soar.

Matthew Knowles: I thought this was to offset the damage done to the environment. I also thought electric cars were greener. So surely less damage less to offset.

Lee Richardson: Offsetting simply doesn't exist, it's just an excuse to tax you more, it's a load of bull, in my opinion anyway.

Andy Coulson: Electric cars will be taxed by then.

Raymond Matuszek: Well they are scrapping red diesel for plant so I'm sure that will more than make up for it.

Stuart Porthouse:

There is no way that the treasury will be allowed to lose income, they will tax something else.

Maurice Allen: When it’s starts to lose revenue the Government will think of a way to get it back by some form of electric vehicle tax.

James Poole: Well surprise surprise it don't take a boffin to work that out they will soon find another way to get that back from general public.

Daniel Willis: Are they not going to make what they lose on fuel on electricity??

Simon Alden: They'll find a way.

David Bennett: They wont lose a penny, they will find a way to tax electric vehicles, just come up with some lame excuse as usual.

Alan Dorward: They’ll simply raise taxes on whatever else they choose. The taxman never loses out.

Paul Emerson: I'll make a prediction, they won't lose out on any revenue as they will simply tax electric charging points. Plus even in six years time the majority of the population will not be able to afford to buy an electric car and will struggle on with petrol so they won't lose all that predicted tax revenue.

Mike Lisard: Doubt it, have you seen fuel prices. Disgusting.

Phil Gray: Don’t worry, the treasury won’t be losing a penny.
