Crumbie focused on Redcar test after poor City are sent packing

Boldon CA manager David Crumbie immediately set his sights on continuing his side’s good form after Saturday’s 6-2 win at bottom-of-the-table Durham City.

Boldon had romped to a 10-goal win over the Citizens in the opening week of the season as Levi Collins crashed a double hat-trick to lead his side to their first win as a Northern League club.

The striker was in similarly prolific mood at Hall Lane in the return Division Two clash on Saturday – although he had to settle for just the five goals to take his tally for the season to 36.

Collins also played a hand in setting up Codie Howe, as Boldon claimed a fourth consecutive league win, taking advantage of Newcastle University’s match at Jarrow being postponed to move up to fifth in the table.

Crumbie praised his side for adjusting to difficult conditions as the blustery conditions battered Hall Lane.

And now, with a simple one completed, he is focused on a more challenging task at 11th-placed Redcar Town next weekend.

He said: “We started the game really poorly and it seemed to take us about 10 minutes to settle.

“But once we got to grips with the conditions, we always looked by far the better side.

“We worked the ball well through the thirds, and our rotations of play worked well.

“We looked solid defensively and controlled large parts of the game.

“Levi Collins was a constant thorn in their side and worked hard to get his five goals.

“And Liam Bayles, who made his debut, looked solid, he fitted in well with the way he played and he was my man of the match.

“We have a very hard game at Redcar Town next week, so

we will rest up, have a good session in midweek and fully prepare for that game.”

Matthew Lazenby and Harley Clarke were on target for the hosts as they scored twice in a game for only the

third time this season.

However, the Citizens remain without a win from their 25 league games so far this season and are now 21 points adrift at the bottom of the table, behind Washington, Esh

Winning and Blyth Town, tied on 22 points. Their search for a first win of the campaign takes them into a home game against promotion challengers Easington Colliery next weekend.
