Cole delighted as Silksworth triumph in derby ‘that had everything’

-

Silksworth CW manager Jamie Cole was delighted to see his side come through a derby “that had everything” as they claimed a 2-0 home win against Farringdon Detached.

Second-half goals from Nathan Bennett and Niall Crosby helped Silky take the honours in a typically feisty affair and gave them a third consecutive win.

The result also moved

Cole’s side into third place in the Wearside League First Division table and the Silksworth boss was pleased with his side after they took the local bragging rights.

He told The Echo: “It was a local derby that had everything.

“We controlled large parts of the game, but couldn’t get passed a wall of a defence.

“We hit the post, missed a penalty and that’s just in the first-half. We made two changes at half-time and one of them paid off when Nathan Bennett scored the best volley Silksworth Park has ever seen.

“Farringdon kept coming at us, but they couldn’t break us down and our other sub Niall Crosby ended their hopes of getting anything from the game.”

Chester-le-Street United remain at the top of the table after Cameron Brewis hit a hat-trick, Jay Gibson scored twice and Jaden Timmis and James Bakou grabbed a goal apiece in their 7-0 home win against Shotton Colliery.

Durham Corinthians good form continued with a 3-0 win at home to Shildon Reserves, thanks to a Steven Telford brace and a Michael Ross strike.

A Peter Henderson penalty made the difference at

Brinkburn Road as Coxhoe Athletic claimed only their second league win of the season against Darlington RA.

Craig Linsel plundered his way to four goals in FC Hartlepool’s 5-1 win at Richmond Town and Windscale were 2-0 winners at West Auckland Tunns.

Jonny Hirst scored twice and there was a goal each for Shaun Bell, Robbie Houghton and Matty Halliday as Gateshead

Leam Rangers romped to a 5-1 home win against Annfield Plain.

Goals from debutant Sotiris Kyriakou and Josh Moody were not enough to prevent Washington United falling to a 3-2 defeat at Norton and Stockton Ancients Youth.

And Wolviston are into the semi-finals of the Alan Hood Charity Cup after a 3-0 penalty shoot-out win against Darlington Town.
