Knocking good news

-

It seems the left can't resist any opportunity to try to rubbish any good news concerning the UK.

Ged Taylor, again, wades in by claiming that the UK's record economic growth in 2021 of 7.5%, which produced the fastest growth since 1948, should not be celebrated.

This even when the UK's

GDP grew faster than any other of the G7 group of nations.

He points out that the economy shrank in 2020; well now there is a surprise given it was at the height of the Covid pandemic.

Any economic growth in the current climate, never mind this record growth, has to be welcomed as it produces linked benefits.

Look at employment: the number of UK workers on payrolls rose by 108,000 between December and January to 29.5 million, the Office for National Statistics said.

Sam Beckett, head of economic statistics at the ONS, said: “The number of employees on payrolls rose again in January 2022 and is now well above prepandemic levels.

“The survey also shows that unemployment has fallen again and is now only fractionally above where it was before the pandemic.”

All this due, in no small measure, to the Government's much acclaimed support measures that saved thousands of businesses and hundreds of thousands of jobs.

I suppose Labour supporters have a need to knock any good news.
