Williamson urges Heed not to let up in title race

-

Gateshead player-manager Mike Williamson was happy to see his side “get the job done” as they moved six points clear at the top of the National League North table with a 3-1 win against Farsley Celtic.

The Heed went into the game looking for a fourth consecutive win and they broke through a dogged Farsley side whenCedwynScottfiredthem infrontonthehalf-hourmark.

The former Carlisle United and Hebburn Town striker doubled his tally and his side’s lead four minutes into the second-half before team-mate AdamCampbellstoletheshow withastunningstrikewithjust over 20 minutes remaining.

Chris Atkinson grabbed a late consolation for the visitors but Gateshead never really looked under threat, and Williamson said: “They are a decent team and our record against them isn’t great so it was a good performance from the boys.

“We knew we had to perform and the levels we had to get to to get the result so that was pleasing.

“Thewholeteam, ourethos is everyone defends together andeveryoneattackstogether, and we look to raise the standards of both sides of the game.

“It’s nice to have the two strikers scoring and the boys at the top end of the pitch are doing so well for us.

“But I thought Louis (Storey) and Carl (Magnay) were very good at the back and Bails (Owen Bailey) was colossal in front of them.

“It’s disappointing to concede one, but we took the sting out of it after they scored and got the job done.

“It’s relentless but the lads aremanagingtoovercomeeveryobstacleputinfrontofthem atthemoment.Wehavetolook to keep improving.”
