Murton make it a two-horse title race between Colliers and Catholics

-

The rain and gale force winds put paid to most of the domestic league and cup programme in the SSK Recruitment Peterlee & District Sunday League, with only five matches going ahead.

The game of the day of what survived the weather was in the Premier Division, where Easington Colliery Welfare lost their 100 per cent record when being held against County Cup semi-finalists Murton Colliery FC.

The game ended all-square at 1-1, with Ethan Ord on target for the Welfare while substitute Alex Goddard levelled matters for the Murton outfit.

By only claiming a draw, that has now opened up the title race, which will go to one of either two clubs in Easington Colliery Welfare or Peterlee Catholic Club.

Peterlee Catholic Club themselves picked up all three points after a comfortable 5-0 win against Easington Lane WMC, with a brace from Scott Thompson plus further efforts from Josh Home-Jackson and substitutes Jake Slater and Craig Foster.

In the first leg of the semifinal of the Second Division League Cup, Seaham the Knack came out on top when beating Haswell Oddfellows Arms 2-0 and now take that lead into the second leg, which takes place on Sunday. Shane Docherty and sub Paul Henderson were on target.

In the First Division, goals from Ryley Johnson, Adam Brown and Craig Rudd sealed a 3-1 win for Easington Southside against Seaham Oddfellows Arms, with Jack Appleby netting for the Oddfellows.

In the Second Division, Seaham Park FC maintained their hopes for promotion winning a 12-goal encounter 8-4 against Houghton Comrades of Great War. Victory came thanks to a Jonathan Glenwright hat-trick, a brace from Michael Kennedy along with further goals from David Lindsay, Adam Leslie and Antony Thirkell, with the reply for the Comrades being a Barry Turton hat-trick and a strike from Joe Turton.
