STORY

New link road proposed for the site of former Peacocks store.

David Humble: I actually don't think this is a bad idea. You are adding a small stretch of road (which already exists for the most part) to turn it into a circular one way system. Much safer and prevents congestion especially around what will be the new train station.

Shell Atkinson: We need decent shops not roads.

Tom McDonald: Easier to spend cash on roads than it is to get traders into the town centre as the rates and customer catchment kills them off.

Colin Smith: I thought the idea was to pedestrianise that area to cut down on emissions in the town centre. Now they want to add roads and build another multi story car park?

Sean Horden: It’s a great idea and exactly what it needs – minimum cost and improved access to the area.

Nathan Askew: If it was up to me I’d demolish all of Blandford Street.

Maurice Allen: Easiest way to sort out the city centre is to open Holmeside and Fawcett Streets both ways to all traffic ie the way it was before the council changed it, how many changes have we seen to traffic flow and access in Sunderland over the past few decades and none have improved things only confused things.

Andy Draper: Spend the money on the frontage of shops making them more appealing and seating in streets not a road, aren’t we suppose to be lowering emissions in cities.

Sam Thompson: Basically this is for when they finish the train station for pick up and drop offs.

Robert Robson: So!

After more than three years after the fire, this is the best use they can come up with? This fire helped to destroy my long established business, we were promised just after the fire we would get help from our local authority. Guess what? We got none at all. Not even help with rates.

Ian Hardie: Just bulldoze Holmeside and Blandford Street then start planning.
