No excuses for Hughes as injury-hit Ryhope beaten

Ryhope CW joint-manager Craig Hughes admitted his side looked tired as they ended a hectic week with a narrow defeat at West Auckland Town.

After impressive wins against West Allotment Celtic and Spennymoor Town, all looked to be going to plan for Ryhope when Kyle Davis put them in front midway through the first-half.

But they were pegged back when Andre Bennett got the hosts back on levelterms with a penalty and it was West that claimed the Northern League Division 1 points, thanks to a secondhalf winner from Kyle Fryatt.

Hughes said: “It was disappointing and we aren’t making excuses, but we are carrying a few injuries.

“We are down to the bare bones and we’ve had West Allotment last week, then we went to Spennymoor in midweek with all of the emotion of that.

“It’s taken its toll and a few lads looked tired, but credit to West, they played some decent stuff in what wasn’t the prettiest of games.

“It was probably a fair result in the end.”

Ryhope CW are back in action on Wednesday, when travel to Thornaby for a league game, kick off 7.30pm.

Seaham Red Star earned a point in their home game with Guisborough Town after a late equaliser from

Danny Sayer cancelled out an opener from Priorymen winger Jack Blackford.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Newton Aycliffe boosted their promotion hopes with

a 4-0 win at Redcar Athletic thanks to a Liam Jarvie brace and a goal apiece from Andrei Ardelean and Marc Costello.

North Shields also remain in the hunt as Ryan Carr’s brace gave them a 2-0 home win against a Billingham Town side that now sit at the

bottom of the table.

Karl Ross, Lewis Suddick and Luke Salmon all netted in Ashington’s 3-0 win at Newcastle Benfield and recent signing Craig Moody hit a hat-trick as Crook Town eased to a 4-0 win at Penrith.

Northallerton Town

claimed a crucial win at relegation rivals Bishop Auckland. Sonni Coleman and Liam Miller netted for the Two Blues – but they were left empty-handed by an Alex Bruton brace and a goal apiece from Michael Rae and Nathan Stephenson.
