Stewart hails ‘fantastic’ players as West End enjoy big home win

-

Sunderland West End manager Steven Stewart could not hide his delight after his side cantered to a 4-0 home win against Blyth Town.

West End were in dominant form and they boosted their Northern League Division 2 play-off hopes with a professional display to see off Michael Connor’s side.

Dom Moan and Cameron Old both scored twice to keep their side third in the table and that left their manager to laud his side’s display.

He said: “We had a few key players back and that made the difference.

“It was a really convincing win and every player was fantastic.

“Dom has put the pressure on the other forwards and he’s been a fantastic signing.

“Cameron came on and he scored twice, so he’s really pushing for a start.

“I think it’s sunk in that we have an outside chance of promotion and they have to up their game in every game.”

West End travel into Northumberland on Saturday to take on Bedlington Terriers.

Goals from Brad Chisholm and Alex Dobinson were not enough to help Washington continue their upturn in form at Ryton & Crawcrook Albion.

A brace from Konner Lamb and a Lee Waugh strike gave the promotion chasers a 3-2 win at Kingsley Park.

Top goalscorer Levi Collins netted once again as Boldon CA’s push for promotion continued with a 3-1 home win against Brandon United.

Glen Cayhill got Brandon back in the game after Collins’ opener, but a Jonny Wightman brace gave Boldon yet another win.

Two goals from Jack Maskall and one from Kieran Campbell gave Horden CW a 3-0 win at Chester-le-Street

Town and Channon North’s brace helped Jarrow on their way to a 3-0 triumph against Bedlington Terriers.

Carlisle City were 1-0 home winners against Birtley Town thanks to a firsthalf strike from Jordan Holt and Tow Law Town and Newcastle University shared the spoils at Ironworks Road.

The Lawyers looked set to claim all three points as goals from former Consett duo Tom McAloon and Ryan McKinnon sandwiched an Archie Gardiner own-goal, but a late penalty from Stephen Pennington ensured the points were shared.
