Covid is ‘boring’, what we need now is some new drivel

- With Tony Gillan

Coronavirus has obviously slipped down the news agenda – and all it took was a war. Alas, the piffle mongers just won’t let go. We refer to those poor souls who imagine that the opinions of experts who devote their lives to medical study and advancement are just no match for the teachings of Right Said Fred, or her off Loose Women who was married to him off Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

They currently pretend that the media is pretending that Covid has disappeared. Not unusually, they’re wrong.

We certainly don’t hear so much about it, but that isn’t quite the same thing. Mr Putin has opened hostilities in a neighbouring sovereign state. Or was it Bill Gates?

Either way, it dominates the news. Yet that hasn’t quite ceased the flow of Covid drivel.

If we’re really “living with Covid” now, then thank the scientists who produced the vaccine.

However, the same people who, quite extraordinarily, claimed that any death, even in a car crash, was being officially attributed to Covid are still out in force.

The difference now is that if anyone dies suddenly or unexpectedly; they will blame the vax. Those making such claims are, as ever, unencumbered by tiresome details such as evidence. But when were they ever?

I expect the usual pelters for even mentioning Covid. This will inevitably come in the highly-articulate form of yawning emojis, or the revelation that someone is “bored of this” (sic).

Which is the more worrying: that some people will believe/ disbelieve virtually anything? Or their perception that a pandemic should never be mentioned again because it’s lost its entertainment value.

The world, or at least its media, has moved on but perhaps (although it’s doubtful) have heard the last crackpot “theory” about Covid.

What we need now, to keep gullible but loud people occupied, are a few crackpot theories about Ukraine and Russia.

This should be easy. As usual, there is social media to fill empty heads with magic.

But piffle mongers should take the opportunity while they still can to watch RT; the Lord Haw-Haw for the millennium and incredibly still broadcasting in the UK.

For now.
