The number of motorists driving off without paying for fuel has rocketed in the last three months as forecourt prices rise on a neardaily basis.

Lucy Potts: Sad really, it’s probably out of desperation people trying to get to work to keep a roof over their families heads. Will be the same when the gas and electric goes up

Neal Underwood: The theft is being conducted by the fuel companies that are making record profits at the expense of the consumers.

Paul Humble: People literally can't afford to get to work or get the kids to school, what do they expect?

Joanne Jarvis: Well done to the government once again making people thieves out of desperation.

Gail Elliott: It's corporate greed. The price per barrel actually dropped last week yet the prices contained to increase!

Trevor Parkin: The government should reduce the tax they take off the fuel, I think its 80% I also think the greedy suppliers should be heavily fined for profiteering, they bought the fuel months ago but increase it daily. Sheer greed.

Rhys Smith: I don’t drive but I sympathise fully with those badly affected by these changes. It’s clear that neoliberalism and modernity has utterly failed.

Mick Lumsden: It's simple, target one supplier and nobody, I mean nobody, touches their pumps for a month, the price will come down, I guarantee it and if it does come down, still don't use it.

Graeme Wharton: Well they should take payment before fuelling up, problem solved .

Derek Burdon: Well the fuel industry needs to be brought to task, fuel sold today was bought months ago. It’s robbing people so who’s robbing who.

Alan Kelly: The thieves are the petrol station owners and the government.

Mick Caney: Well what do they expect, tank up and do a runner, it will only get worse?
