Tesco bosses have confirmed that the Express store in the Bridges Shopping Centre will close next month.

Debbie Ellenden:

Shocking, we will have no shopping area in town. I feel for the older people who go there.

Bryony Fucile: Frustrating as it's the only real place to get an allergy-friendly, reasonably priced snack for my daughter if we're out and about for longer than anticipated.

Jon Bonallie: A town with no supermarket, well done SCC.

Derek Burdon: Well, strikes me as a bit odd the shop’s quite a busy place. Thinks there’s a plan in the background.

Brett Redmayne: It’s always busy. Gutted as me and my elderly dad use this store all the time as it’s near by.

Brian Heaton: There's gonna be nothing left in the Bridges at this rate.

Karl Nessworthy: This shop is literally bursting with customers every time I pass it in

The Bridges, bonkers decision.

Allan Crago: Support Sunderland shops and businesses and they will thrive. Shops are closing because too many Wearsiders are either shopping online or going to Tyneside.

Veronica McCaskill: The full story is they want to move to a central site that can stay open late. I think Debenhams site would be great idea.

Julie Boyce: That’s not good as loads rely on, and work there.

Alyson Wardle: Appalling decision, midregeneration of the City Centre to increase the resident population and there will be no supermarket to shop in. Let's hope it's a move to an alternative City Centre location and not a "City" location miles away.

Moira Horrox: Nothing left in the town now. Nothing like the town it was.

Rita Jameson: Town centre will be empty before long.
