Cole embraces Silksworth point in entertaini­ng six-goal thriller

Silksworth CW manager Jamie Cole reflected on a dramatic day as his side shared six goals with Wearside League title-chasing Darlington Town.

Harry Munday and Joe Jones before scored to give Silky an early advantage but their visitors hit back to level up the game with goals from Ben Wood and Jim Wilson.

Josh Perry restored Silksworth’s lead with just under 20 minutes remaining but the spoils were shared as Sam England’s fine finish earned a point for Town.

After the game, Cole said: “For the first time I can recall this season, we started the game on the front foot and got in their faces. It paid off when we went ahead and we quickly got another goal.

“But the injury to Billy Wyatt knocked us off course and they got back into the game.

“Both sides created plenty of chances, but it was Darlo that got the next goal before Josh Perry put us back in front.

“They scored late on and it was a nervy ending where both sides could have nicked it in the end. It was just a really good game for everyone there .”

That draw meant Chester le-Street United extended their lead at the top of the table to four points after they romped to a 5-0 win at Washington United.

A Jay Gibson hat-trick laid the foundation­s for the leadersand Jack Mortimer and Dan Planning also found the net as the visitors claimed a straightfo­rward win at Nissan Sports Complex.

Durham Corinthian­s lie in fourth place after two goals from Dan Weaver and one from Cameron Arthurs gave Dean Smith’s side a 3-1 home win against FC Hartlepool.

Richmond Town romped to a 6-0 home win against bottomof the table Cox hoe Athletic and West Auckland Tunns claimed a 1-1 draw against Norton and Stockton Ancient sin the battle of two sides satin the bottom four.

Jake Stott, Michael McGee and Nathan Bayes all scored in Wolviston’s 3-0 home win against Darlington RA and Shotton Colliery and Shildon Reserves failed to break the deadlock in a low-key affair.

Sunderland RCA manager Steve Riley hailed a “very good performanc­e” from his side as they battled to a 2-1 win at relegation-threatened Billingham Town in Division One of the Northern League.

The two sides looked on their way to a hard-earned draw after RCA striker Michael Anang-Colquhoun saw his first-half goal cancelled out by a quickfire equaliser from Daniel Boyle.

But RCA snatched the points and thrust their hosts further towards relegation troubles when Chris Winn scored their winner ten minutes from time.

Riley said :“It was a good win and we played extremely well.

“We could have won by five or six as we created lots of chances but a combinatio­n of the woodwork and good saves kept the score down.

“But there is no denying it was a very good performanc­e.”

Seaham Red Star shared the points in a dramatic 3-3 draw at West Allotment Celtic.

Mark Col ling wood’ s looked on their way to a fine win on North Tyneside as two goals from Ryan Bola man done from Mark Robinson gave them a 3-2 lead at half-time. But Callum Larmouth’s brace kept their hosts in the game and they earned a share of the spoils when Matty Hayton struck an equaliser with quarter of an hour left on the clock.

There was a twist in the title race as leaders Consett fell to a 2-1 defeat at Redcar Athletic.

Consett got themselves in front with an early goal from James Martin - but they were left empty-handed thanks to a goal in each half from Athletic striker Isaac Walker.

Second-placed North Shields took full advantage of that slip-up to move within six points of Consett with a 5-0 demolition of Penrith.

Regan Paterson hit a brace and there was a goal apiece for Andrew Cart wright, Brad Hi rd and Cam Cunningham as the Robins eased to a fine win.

Adam Burnicle got the only goal of the game as Bishop Auckland took the bragging

rights in their local derby at West Auckland Town and Liam Jarvie’s brace gave Newton Aycliffe a 2-1 win at Ashington.

Peter Glen-Ravenhill’s goal was enough to give Newcastle Benfield a narrow home win against Thorn a by and Whitley Bay earned a point at Guisboroug­h Town as Adam Shanks’ equaliser cancelled out an opener from Joe Bartliff.

Dale Hopson’s late penalty gave Northaller­ton Town a 2-2 home draw against Crook Town after Craig Moody looked to have given the visitors all three points.

Horden CW’s reaction to their recent defeat against Sunderland West End as they romped to all three points againstRyt on and Crawcrook Albion in the Northern League Division Two.

A tight contest was expected but those thoughts were quickly cast aside as HomeJackso­n fired Horden ahead inside the opening minute.

The slender advantage remained in place at half-time but the forward doubled his tally and his side’s lead just after the hour-mark.

Paul King pulled ago al back for the visitors on 74 minutes but Horden redoubled their efforts and raced out comfortabl­e winners as Home-Jackson

took his tally to four and Liam Wright netted a fifth six minutes from time.

Coll edge said :“It was a great response after last week’s disappoint­ing result against West End. We asked for a reaction and told the lads we had to win if we had any hopes of reaching the play-offs.

“Every player responded, and in fairness, it could have been more than five as we totallycon­trolled the game and Josh Home-Jackson was excellent.

“Results went our way, which gives us a slight chance of maybe reaching the playoffs.”
