Dogs are banned from Sunderland beaches each summer.

Barbara Donkin: The problem is many people use the dog friendly beach because it's close to the car parks. Last year, the no dog section, from the pier to the park was virtually empty.

Lisa Stephenson: Check the Sunderland council website it will show you where dogs are and aren’t allowed during summer months!

Nadene Sweeney: I think its a good idea having part of the beaches where dogs cannot go, because not all owners are responsible.

Sash Elstob: Maybe people should be banned as they make a lot more mess than the dogs.

Vaness Newby: There's still plenty of beach where you can walk dogs. I have dogs myself but still think it's a good idea during school holidays. But 100% there should be someone there to fine for leaving litter, the same as they have people there to move dogs to the correct part of the beach.

Pauline Philliskirk: Dogs can still go on the best beaches depending on the tides but was enforced more last year and clearly marked now so no excuse if on the wrong beach.

Emma Ellaa: Good. Kids playing and building sandcastles where dogs have urinated and that. Plus running wild next to children is worrying too. Never know if the dog will turn on your kids playing.

Jennifer Gibson: I don't have a dog bit I think it's some of the people who shouldn't be allowed down, most dogs are better behaved than some humans.

David Holgate: Good. Newsflash to dog lovers – not everyone loves dogs.

Luke Kirtley: If they are on a lead then fair enough but it’ summer soon where people head to the beach to chill, so yeah I'd rather not have a dog that i don't know running up to me or my son.

Mark Teasdale: In my experience most dog owners are not responsible, letting dogs urinate on people bags and chairs its disgusting. Also I would put peoples freedom before dogs!
