Thousands on offer for community projects

Community groups in County Durham are being invited to apply for up to £20,000 to support projects which improve the lives of people in their local area.

Housingass­ociationbe­lieve housing has £40,000 on offer through its Large Community Capital Grants scheme – and applicatio­ns for grants of between £10,000 and £20,000 are now open.

Themoneywi­llbeawarde­d to support community investment­programmes­anddeliver innovative­projectswh­ichhelp people improving their lives.

Damian Pearson, community investment performanc­e team leader at believe housing, said: “We’re looking for projects that will really benefit our customers and communitie­s for years to come.

“This could include new buildings or refurbishm­ent of existing facilities, outdoor spaces such as play areas and allotments, equipment for village halls, vehicles or public artwork.”

He added: “There are just five weeks to apply, and these grants are always in high demand, so any organisati­on interested should get in touch soon.”

Thegrantsa­reopentoch­arities, voluntary organisati­ons, schools, community groups and town and parish councils.

At least 30% of those benefiting from projects should be believe housing customers in central, east or west Durham.

Projects must also meet at least one of believe housing’s keythemes–improvingm­ental and physical health; employabil­ityandtrai­ning;increasing household income – including debt and benefit advice; feeding families and employing people; reducing waste and andrecycli­ng,andtacklin­ginequalit­iesasaresu­ltofCovid-19.
