What changes would you like to see at the North East’s dog-friendly beaches?

Jill Kelly: For me it’s not about the mess dog owners or non dog owners, it’s about dogs off leads who race up to you. The owners call them but it’s totally ineffective. Definitely should be dog areas for those who don’t want random dogs jumping up at them.

Kathy Stewart:

Responsibility from all owners, most are fine but there’s still some who don’t clean up after their dogs foul pathways.

Sammy Agatha: Dogs in the dog zone only. Not everyone is a dog lover. Why some owners think it's okay to allow their dogs to run over and jump and pounce on people is beyond me.

Lisa Dixon: I'm all for dog free zones in the summer, providing the dog-haters stick to those parts and don't moan about dogs on the dog friendly parts. Would also be nice if humans tidied up after themselves and didn't leave their rubbish on the beach.

Sarah Lowes: Probably better to have human free zones. Just imagine how much less litter there would be.

Megan Thompson: I think all dogs should be on a lead. I've had a few off lead dogs come up to my puppy and actually be quite aggressive. It has put me off taking him to the beach as I have young children so trying to watch them and stop my puppy being harassed/ attacked off other dogs is too much.

Michael Atkinson:

Total ban on dogs on all beaches. Also should always be on a lead when being walked.

Samantha Dunn: Have part of the beach for those dogs that can’t socialise and need to be kept on Leads. We have just been getting our dog from kennels and he loves the beach but we can’t go much due to other owners not listening when we ask to keep their dog away until we have taught him to socialise.

Claire Dugffy: Happy with the current arrangements for Sunderland dog ban on part of the beach 1 May – September 30. Those who walk their dogs on the banned part should be fined.

Bob Langley: Leave the rules alone. We all know them.
