Pattison hails Seaham Harbour’s five new signings as major boost

In the Readers Durham & North East Cricket League, Seaham Harbour entertain Esh Winning this weekend.

Seaham skipper Stewart Pattison said: “We have signed Indian profession­al Paras Dogra for the 2022 season, and he averages over 50 in first class cricket back in India, so will bring a lot of quality to the batting.

"Jack Lacey returns to his home club, Steven Gale, Ryan Consitt and Harry Morgan have all signed from Dawdon.

"These five new signings should make us very competitiv­e in a very strong league.”

Ryhope travel to Durham City and chairman Ian Lawrence said :“Following our promotion last season, we hope that 2022 will be one of consolidat­ion,our profession­al S ag er Udeshi returns and there has been very little change on the players in/out front.”

Littletown journey to the Billy Hardy Complex, to play Hylton.

Gregg Arundel (Head of Cricket Developmen­t) from Littletown CC said: “We were delighted with a fifth place finish in DNECL Division one last year and are hoping for a similar finish this season.

"We have lost Patrick Stephenson to Hetton Lyons and Tom Nicholson to Seaham Park, both wanting to test themselves in the NEPL.

“In those spaces we bring in Zaheer Shabaz from Sunderland, a seasoned NEPL player with a great reputation over the years. We have also signed a young West Indian overseas amateur with lots of potential called T’Jhari Clarke, a hard hitting top order batsman and useful pace bowler.”

Captain Paul Cassell, “I am really happy with the pre-seasonwork we’ ve done and we go again hard with a very similar side to last year. We also have David Craig available all season as a frontline spinner, so we should be stronger than last year. A lot of sides have strengthen­ed so we need to be at our best again.”

At Jack Clark Park, Marsden entertain Brandon and skipper Owen Peterson said: “We have some new players, in Alan Beadle (opening batsman signed from Boldon CA), Matthew Hughes (seam bowler signed from Eppleton) and Nasar Hussain (all-rounder signed from Great Ayton). Our overseas amateur is Mohammed Hammad, a batsman/ spinner.

“It will be a very competitiv­e league this season, thereforeo­ur aim is to finish top half and have some good cup runs.”

In the other game, South Shields who finished runners up last season, journey to play Dawdon Welfare at Welfare Park, who finished just below mid-table last season.

In Division Two, Boldon CA host Durham City and skipper Jason Jones said: “We have no profession­als this season as we look to rebuild the club off the field at this moment in time, as its about stability and building a good base for years to come.

"One new player well not new to the club, but committed for a full season is Rob O'Brien who is an outstandin­g bats man and will strengthen the batting and a few other players whose work commitment­s didn't allow them much game time last season, are looking to play a lot more this season.

“Our ambition is to try and finish as high up the league as possible as we look to rebuild on the field this season, but with my runs and now Rob into the team, we are looking to finish a lot higher than last season.”
