Residents have their say on future of the county

-

People in County Durham are being invited to have their say on key plans which will affect new housing developments.

The County Durham Plan sets out the council’s vision for housing, jobs, transport, schools and the environment until 2035 and views are being sought on documents which supplement the plan – including securing ‘developer contributions’ from new homes schemes.

The Developer ContributionsSupplementaryPlanning Document sets out how the authority will calculate contributions which must be paid by developers to create or improve existing infrastructure and services in the communities where they are building.

Supplementary Planning Document follows a consultation last year and aims to provide an appropriate level of parking on all new developments.

A consultation has also launched on a proposed amendment to the Highways Design Guide, which sets out requirements for developers and council officers with the aim of discouraging drivers from parking on pavements.

Cllr Elizabeth Scott, the council’s cabinet member for economy and partnerships, said: “It is important to us that everyone who lives in, works and visits County Durham has their say on our consultations andhelpsinformourdecisions about the future of the county.

“The County Durham Plan and its associated documents aim to meet the needs of all communities across the countyandensuringthatweprovide the best opportunities for our residents.

"Iwouldencourageasmany people as possible to take part in the consultation.”
