Anniversary year boost for cancer aid charity

-

A long-standing cancer support charity in the North East has been given a £3,000 anniversary year boost.

Coping With Cancer – which this year celebrates its 40th anniversary – has received the cash from Newcastle Building Society’ s Community Fund.

The donation will cover the costs of 100 hours of one-to-one therapy services which the charity provides in Tyne and Wear.

Coping With Cancer offers a range of free complementary therapies – including aromatherapy – and counselling services to anyone who is or has been affected by a cancer diagnosis, including the families of people with cancer and those who have lost a loved one to the disease.

The charity has seen demand for its help rise significantly through the pandemic – working with around 800 people in the last month alone.

The Newcastle Building Society Community Fund at the Community Foundation offers grants to charities and community groups and or around communities served by the society's branch network.

Maggie Bailey, chief executive at Coping With Cancer, said: “Like every charity, fundraising has been one of our biggest challenges over the last two years, and the money we’ve received from Newcastle Building Society will make a huge difference to our work.

Stewart Nicol, area manager at Newcastle Building Society, said: “Coping With Cancer’s invaluable support has a terrific impact on the well-being of hundreds of North East people and their families, and at the time of greatest need, they’ve stepped up to make sure that that support remained available.”
