Dark and psychological original crime drama returns to Alibi
It’s a welcome return to Alibi for the offbeat crime drama - series one is available now to catch up on demand via UKTV Play. Conflicted odd couple cops DS Lola Franks (Eve Myles) and DI Jackson Mendy (Babou Ceesay) are dead set on nailing Freddy Lane (Hermione Corfield) for her murderous role in their last case. So, when outrageous new serial killer, The Birdman, strikes, bringing Freddy into their orbit once more, they are determined to get ahead in this complicated and cunning hunt and lock her up once and for all.
But, in a race to find The Birdman as the body count stacks up, it soon becomes clear that this new, devilishly dark murderer has a bigger plan which has both Freddy and the police chasing through the shadows as they try to unmask the sinister killer who starts to target victims close to Freddy, Jackson and Lola – and has them questioning just who they can trust.
Writer Gaby Hull says: “The characters really took me where they needed to go in this series.

I followed them and thought about where they would be in their lives, particularly what Freddy would be doing and how Lola would be pursuing her, especially after the piece of evidence she found not being enough to arrest her.
Freddy now has new found fame and this sense of notoriety that has crept up around her in the intervening ten months. From a technical point of view, we always knew who the killers were in series one, so it was a different experience of a police thriller. Then in series two, I wanted to have a bit more fun
with a whodunnit element. So, we have Freddy still at the heart of the story, but this time I wanted to add an anonymous killer in to add more of a horror vibe to the thriller genre. It’s exciting because every character that Freddy meets is essentially a potential suspect.”
