Nissan hailed a Green Hero for its EV work
A £1bn investment which will see car giant Nissan and its partners establish a world-leading electric vehicle supply chain in Sunderland has seen the firm scoop a major industry award.
The Japanese car maker has received a Green Hero Award from motoring website Electrifying.com to mark its pioneering investment in zero emission vehicles and plans for sustainable electric vehicle manufacturing.
The honour recognises Nissan’s roadmap to carbon neutrality, its£1bn UK investment ins u stain ableEV production technologies, as well as the global success of its ground-breaking Sunderland-manufactured LEAF– the world’ s first mass market electric vehicle when it was launched in 2010.
Judges also recognised Nissan’ s long-established solar and wind farms, recycling initiatives and the shorter supply chains.
Kevin Fitzpatrick, senior vice president for manufacturing and supply chain management at Nissan Europe, said: “We are delighted to receive this award for our pioneering work with electric vehicles since 2010, including the Nissan LEAF, which is proudly built by our manufacturingteam herein the UK.
“Nissan is investing £1bn into sustainable and future-proof manufacturing in Sunderland as part of a global plan to achieve carbon neutrality across its operations and the lifecycle of its products by 2050.
