Get behind the Lionesses

-

After all of the doom and gloom, causing so much stress to people of this country by Johnson's huge mess, it was so refreshing and uplifting to see England ladies football team provide a huge boost to morale by putting in a brave and spirited performance against the tournament's favourites Spain.

Knocking them out of the tournament 2-1, after going behind in the second half; they really dug deep to find an equaliser, with only six minutes left on the clock!

The young crowd really cheered them on through the 90 minutes, then really got behind them in the 30 minutes of extra time.

The England lasses chased every ball, and showed a fighting spirit to find a winner.

Georgia's Stanway's winner was an absolute screamer of a goal; she took the ball down, and lashed a cracking goal into the Spanish side's goal net - and the fans very nearly lifted the roof off with their cheering delight!

The Lionesses now have a meeting with one of the top sides and I would love to see the whole country really get behind this magnificent England women's team!

They play tonight, and are really worth watching.

Special mention must go to Sunderland lass Jill Scott, who came on at the end as substitute, and gave a true battling performance for our country.

She has now earned a staggering 154 caps playing for her country.

If she hasn't already won freedom of our city then please Sunderland Council award her freedom of the city.

She is the perfect ambassador for the City of Sunderland.

Also for any young lass who wants to take up football, she has led by example.
