Make light work of improving fitness

-

Along with all the great fitness classes, gyms and sports you can take up to keep fit, are methods that you can easily incorporate in to your daily routine.

So you can get active doing household chores to up your step count, or simply park your car a distance away from the supermarket or other destinations to support your fitness.

Use the stairs instead of taking lifts, and use time wisely - so if you're waiting for a bus, go for a short walk rather than just standing or sitting - and consider getting off a stop early to give yourself a bit more exercise.

Make walking a pleasure by joining a walking group or link up with a like- minded friend for regular jaunts.

And get in the habit of having a post meal walk as it's been proven to aid digestion.

Look for longer, rather than shorter routes to wherever you might be going, and watch your step count go up accordingly.

Think about having a dog to keep you company as you head off on daily treks, or volunteer to walk someone else’s for them. Their pleasure will add to yours as they get to explore the surrounding area. Another great idea is to get in training for a cause and work towards a sponsored milestone event that raises money for a charity close to your heart – so achieving a double goal to benefit you and your chosen recipient.

Use transport as little as possible – there may be errands you can do without getting the car out, that you’ve never considered. And if you work from home and have calls to make, think about talking as you walk, for a healthier working option. Finally, keep track of steps and build up.
