Dairy Lane top the Earl Premier as Pumas’ clash is waterlogge­d

Silksworth Pumas’ waterlogge­d clash against Barnes Park opened the door at the top of the Earl Premier for Dairy Lane.

A 5-2 home win over Marine put Dairy Lane top, albeit on shots difference from the Pumas – the top two go head to head on Monday.

In the Earl Cup, Division One leaders Seaham Town were on a bye, and their lead at the top has been cut to nine points after Usworth’s 5-1 win at Hylton Colliery. North Biddick's 4-2 win over Thompson Park keeps them third. In Division Two, the top two went head to head – leaders New Herrington­nowlooknai­ledon for promotion after a 5-1 win at second-placed Whitburn.

The Swan Cup leaders Barnes Park were beaten 4½1½atsecond-placedHoug­hton Dairy Lane – the latter are now only four points behind the leaders with four games left to play. The promotion race out of Division Two took another twist as the top two both lost. Leaders Pemberton went down5-1atHyltonC­ollieryand NewHerring­tonlost5-1atHetton Workmen. Those results mean there is only a single point covering the top three teams. Bottom-of-the-table Thompson Park’s 4-2 win over Washington wasn’t enough to lift them off the foot of the table.

The Harold Howey runaway leaders Barnes Park B had their bye this week, allowing second-placed Roker Marine Atocloseth­egaptoeigh­tpoints after they beat North Biddick 3-1. Dairy Lane’s A team’s title hopes were dealt a fatal blow by their B team, the latter winning the local derby 3-1. There were4-0winsforbo­thSeaham Town and South Hylton.

With Marine B on a bye there are new Division Two leaders,HyltonColl­ieryA’s3½½winatBarne­sParkAmovi­ng them half a point clear. The Storey Bowl holders Seaham Town’s hopes of retaining the title took a big

knock, the holders whitewashe­d7-0awayatlea­dersHetton­Workmen,whonowhave­a 5½-point lead at the top. Second-placed New Herrington handed Houghton Town their first win of the season 7-0.

The final of the 3-2-1 knockout triples saw Washington Glebe lift the shield for the first time beating Seaham Town, Ian Tracey securing a last-gasp win.

The Bowls Durham county finals take place tomorrow at Houghton Dairy Lane. There are six finals taking place over the day, starting at 10am and then at 2pm. Locally, Seaham Town’s Mark Higgins will be lookingfor­afirstcoun­tytitleas he faces Darlington RA’s Liam Macey in the blue riband singles final. In a delayed semi-final, Higgins ended Silksworth Pumas’ Scott Baker’s hopes 21-14.
