Luton issue statement on Amad fan incident
Luton Town have issued a strong statement after Tuesday night's incident.
Luton Town have issued a 'lengthy ban' to the supporter who appeared to encroach on the playing surface to shove Sunderland forward Amad during Tuesday night's game at Kenilworth Road.
The club have also said that the incident is now the subject of a police investigation and that they will be taking steps to ensure it does not happen again.
Play was briefly paused in the opening exchanges of Luton's 2-0 win after the 20-year-old loanee moved to try and take a throw in.
Footage suggests a supporter in the front row struck Amad in the back. The referee brought the game to a halt and reported the incident to his fourth official before the game was allowed to resume.
"Luton Town is aware of an incident involving a home spectator and a Sunderland player during last night’s Championship play-off semifinal at Kenilworth Road," a statement issued said.
"A lengthy Club ban will be immediately issued and the incident is now also subject to a police investigation.
"Luton Town wishes to clarify that any such supporterbehaviourisnotacceptable in any way and will take swift, appropriate action to ensure that similar actions do not happen again.
"No further comment will be made by the Club at this time."
It has also been reported that the FA are aware of the incident and are investigating.
The game was the last of Amad's outstanding loan spell, and afterwards he took to social media to tell supporters he would be a Sunderland fan for life.
