Tree researcher enters row over planting in Sunderland city centre after businessman’s complaint. She thinks it could help the city centre blossom.

Pam Todd:

Everybody knows where Tully's is. If you don't, Google maps will show you. The trees are lovely and enhance the area as well as being good for the environment.

Nicholas Perry:

Should line the whole of Holmeside in trees.

David Hetherintgton:

Tully’s are short sighted. Anything to improve the town centre shopping experience will be good for business.

Gordon Greenman:

Things for – looks nice. Things against – cost of maintenance. Leaves falling = mess, slippery pavements, roots lifting road, pavements.

Michael Gray:

To be honest, they've put them on the narrowest part of the path which is crazy. There's plenty of room on the other side of the road, but that's planners for you.

Simon Blakeston: If he's only recently bought the signage, how does he think people knew it was there before? Some people like to whinge about anything new and different.

Wendy Ridley: They are a hazard to people with sight problems.

Sarah Stephenson: Not as if the trees obscure the business. Clearly the business owner is trying to get some free publicity. Wants to be more concerned about the empty unit next to him.

Paul M Hodgson: Stupid place to put them.

Bob Jackson: I'm not sure what the problem is. You can see what it is even in the photo and people can also see it when walking on the pavement. Cherry blossoms only bloom for two weeks anyway.

Julie Nelson: Love cherry blossom. Hope they plant more around the city.

Robert Barrow: It's nice to see trees but not so close to a building. Once the trees are established it will lift the paving around and could also affect the foundations to the buildings.
