Black Cats to try to re-sign Joffy again, says Robbo

Ex-England international Paul Robinson has predicted that Sunderland will try to sign former loanee Joe Gelhardt during the summer transfer window.

The ex-Wigan Athletic man joined the Black Cats during the January transfer window and played 20 times in the Championship, scoring three and assisting three as Sunderland reached the playoffs, ultimately losing against Luton Town over two legs.

“I think both clubs will probably try [Sunderland for Gelhardt and Luton for Drameh],” Robinson said.

“Gelhardt is coming up against Bamford, Rodrigo and Rutter, who has hardly played. You question what’s going to happen.

“I think Gelhardt’s next move is very dependent on the players who are in the current squad. If Leeds are in the Championship, he’s proved he can do it at that level. He’s a good young player who has a part to play at Leeds United. If Leeds stay up, a further loan could be an option for another year of development.”

Meanwhile, Gelhardt penned a short but sweet goodbye to Sunderland fans on social media following the end of the attacker's loan.

Taking to so social media to reflect on his stint in the North East, Gelhardt said: "Thank you everyone I enjoyed every minute," accompanied by red and white heart emojis.

Leeds head into the final game of the Premier League season needing a win to be in with a chance of saving themselves from relegation.

Finally, Luke O'Nien has stated that he believed promotion to the Premier League was ‘possible’ this season and issued a rallying call for the next campaign.

O'Nien enjoyed another stellar season on Wearside, making 43 appearances in the league and featuring a variety of positions, which has once again endeared him to Sunderland fans.

On Twitter, O'Nien stated he believed Sunderland could have gone all the way: "Reflecting last few days, I'm dead proud of this club, team & staff for giving me a season where I believed The Prem was possible! Falling short hurts but like all the tough moments SAFC have had over the years, this will drive this club forward & we will be back! Thank you."
