Stew-out as Donald sells last shares to KLD and Juan

-

Stewart Donald is no longer a shareholder at Sunderland after selling his remaining stake in the club to Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori.

After stepping down as Black Cats chairman in 2020, Donald’s shares in Sunderland have gradually decreased, with the figure reduced to 9 per cent earlier this year.

Donald has insisted he has had no active part in decision-making at Sunderland in recent years, and that his involvement was purely in funding when required.

Yet the businessman has now exited Sunderland’s shareholder group entirely, with Louis-Dreyfus increasing his stake to 64 per cent (up from 58) and Sartori increasing his stake to 36 per cent (up from 33).

Donald recently resumed control of Eastleigh FC, where he was chairman before leaving for Sunderland in 2018.

His tenure as Black Cats owner and majority shareholder ended acrimoniously due to widespread fan discontent due to matters on and off the pitch.

Meanwhile, reports claim former Sunderland loanee Amad Diallo is open to returning to Sunderland – but only if Tony Mowbray remains as head coach.

The Manchester United starlet played 39 times for the Black Cats last season, netting 14 goals and chipping in with three assists.

The Sun newspaper has claimed that Amad would be open to returning to Wearside. Amad himself has left the door open to return to Sunderland "one day" after his successful loan spell.

Sunderland's defeat against Luton Town in the Championship play-off semifinals was the player’s last game for the Cats.

It has been suggested that the 20-year-old will now get a chance to impress Erik ten Hag on the club's pre-season tour and that, if he was to go out on loan again, it would be to a top-tier club.

However, taking to Twitter, Amad appeared to leave the possibility of returning to Sunderland one day in the future on the table, stating that he didn't know what the future could hold. He said: "I don't know what the future holds for me, but I hope that one day we will see each other again. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING."
