Harriersma­kegoodtime­s in the London Marathon

Sunderland Harriers had some superb performanc­es in the London Marathon on Sunday morning around the capital,

Jake Ridding clocked the fastest time over the

26.2 mile distance running a time of 2.29.01, to record a 16 minute and 53 second personal best.

Jason Redman, making his marathon debut battled the gusty winds to beat the three-hour mark with a time of 2.59.28.

Next home for the club was Kevin Johnson, who was running his second marathon in seven days, having completed Manchester last weekend. Johnson clocked 3.04.30 and was closely followed by Paul Redman (V60), who ran an impressive 3.07.17.

Chris Dwyer, who was the fastest Harrier home last year in 2.55.39, recorded 3.11.08.

The first female home for the club was Debbie Defty, who ran a three minute and 20 second personal best time of 3.31.50, to qualify for a good for age entry for next year’s marathon. And Nicola Hadden completed the lineup with a time of 3.54.36.

Sunderland Stroller

Kirsty Lowery knocked almost ten minutes off last year’s performanc­e to run an impressive 3.02.55.

In the Blackpool Marathon, Sunderland Harrier Jordan Taylor recorded 2.56.49.

At the Sunderland Harriers AGM, best performanc­es over the year were acknowledg­ed by the club. The following members gained awards:

The club also paid tribute to their long-standing treasurer Ann Lillie, who served for over 30 years and sadly passed away last August. The Ann Lillie Volunteer Award has been created in her memory.

The Quayside 5km takes place this evening. The course starts on the north side of the River Tyne and follows a flat and fast out and back route along the Quayside, ending with a sprint finish over the Millennium Bridge.

The event is a threerace programme hosted in partnershi­p with Gateshead Harriers and Wallsend Harriers. The Junior Quayside 3km for Under-13s, Under-15s and Under-17s athletes starts at 6.30pm, followed by the Quayside 5km Terry O’Gara A-Race for elite entries at 7.00pm (sub 20 minutes) and culminatin­g in the Quayside 5km B-Race at 7.30pm with 5km pacers.

The first North East Grand Prix track and field event takes place at Monkton Stadium tonight.

The 1500m will be the star event, with the race inundated with entries.
