Chef set to swap kitchen whites for garden delights
The school allows students to share the expertise of the team behind the two-acre kitchen garden, which supplies his two Michelin star restaurant and The Raymond Blanc Cookery School at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons.
Matthew Pottage, curator of RHS Garden Wisley, said: “I am delighted Raymond Blanc has agreed to open our flower show for us in its 25 year.
“He is a passionate ambassador for how kitchen gardens contribute to the very highest standards of gastronomic achievement.”
Visitors will be able to purchase top quality plants while also getting expert advice from more than 50 specialist nurseries. These include many RHS Chelsea and Hampton Court Palace Flower Show medal winners.
There will also be edible plants on offer, such as herbs from Pepperpot Nursery and The Culinary Herb Company.
Alongside unusual edible plants from Edulis Nursery and Pennard Plants, chilli plants from Sea Spring Seeds and plants to make your own cocktails by Plants4Presents.
The show will also offer the chance to see a ‘Bego-lumbo’ display where visitors can view a combination of the garden’s large collection of begonias, displayed alongside aquatic Nelumbo flowers (sacred lotus).
The National Dahlia Society Annual Show will take place at the anniversary event, showcasing the best in dahlia cultivation and colour.
The show will feature more than 100 competition classes, including a special 25th Wisley Flower Show anniversary class.
Visitors are encouraged to get involved and enter their own blooms into the ‘My Best Garden Dahlia’ competition on September 9 and 10.
Entrants just need to bring along a single stem of any type of dahlia that they have grown, to be judged by a panel of experts.
Bonne Maman, known for its conserves, marmalades, compotes and chilled desserts are supporting the show this year for the first time.
Tickets are £14 adult, £36 for a family of four and £7 children aged five to 16, four or under can go free.
