Chippy in the running for another award
IT is not every day a Surrey chip shop is shortlisted for a 2018 National Fish and Chip award.
Seafare, in Worplesdon Road, Guildford, is one of six in London and the South East to be nominated for Fish and Chip Shop of the Year in the awards organised by Seafish.
The chip shop is no stranger to success, having won the title of finest fish and chips in the South East and London in 2011.
It faces stiff competition from Ramsgate’s Newington Fish Bar, Papas Barn in Ditton, Brockley’s Rock, Henley’s of Wivenhoe and Olley’s Fish Experience in London.
Next month, the nominated 60 shops will be whittled down to a top 10 before the final stage of judging takes place in London in January.
Marcus Coleman, chief executive of Seafish, said: “This award showcases the best of the best – the local fish and chip shops that we all love to eat from.
“The calibre in this year’s top 60 is outstanding.
“They are a true representation of our industry and sum up perfectly why British fish and chips are, and always will be, the best in the world.
“With 60 shortlisted shops to choose from, why not take a trip to your nearest contender and see how you rate it?”
Last year’s champions, Nikki Mutton and Craig Maw of Kingfisher Fish and Chips in Plympton, said: “We’ve been so busy serving our brilliant customers, we’ve had to hire more than 10 new members of staff since wining the title in January.”
